Programs

Bourne Youth Girls Softball has three programs, or leagues, for girls who are in grades 1 through 8. We have instructional, minor and major league programs that delineated according to age. Residency in the Town of Bourne is required for all programs. Every girl who registers to play is placed on a team. Registration fees are capped at a maximum of $80 per family covering all leagues. To learn more about the age groups and objectives of each league, please read on.

Instructional League

As the name indicates, this league is strictly instructional. Girls residing in Bourne who are in the first or second grade are eligible to participate. This program runs on Saturdays for 6-8 weeks beginning in late April or early May through the end of school.

A typical Saturday morning program will involve girls being broken into several groups and participating in skill building activities at several "stations". Once the girls have moved through each station, the group will be split into two teams in order to play a game. The instructional league coaches will pitch to the players during the games and 11" safety softballs will be used to help ensure players safety and build their confidence. The ultimate goal of the instructional league is to teach the girls the basics of the game in a fun, friendly environment with the hope that they will continue on in Bourne Youth Girls Softball in future years.

Registration for the instructional league is $25 subject to the family maximum. Each girl will recieve a league T-shirt.

Minor League

The Minor League program is for girls in grades 3 through 5. This program is both instructional and competitive with the emphasis on instruction. Teams are selected following player evaluations which are conducted in early April.

Once teams are selected, practices are held for 2-3 weeks prior to games being played. Each team will play a minimum of 10 games in the regular season followed by single elimination playoffs. Games will be 6 innings long, weather and daylight permitting and are played on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Practices and makeup games will be scheduled according to field availability and coaches' preference.

This league will use 11" softballs with players pitching from a distance of 35 feet from home plate. Games will follow ASA rules except where those rules have been overridden by local league rules.

Registration for the minor league is $50 subject to the family maximum. Every girl will receive a league T-shirt. Teams placing first and second in the playoffs will receive trophies.
